Surgical Management When clinical suspicion is raised for a possible skin cancer lesion (BCC, SCC, MM or other) or for a high risk lesion in precancerous state like a dysplastic nevus, then excisional biopsy is required. This can be performed under local anaesthetic whenever possible. In case of cancer, though, a complementary broad excision will be required after the first one in order to obtain healthy margins, as well as an intervention to the regional lymph nodes starting off with a Sentinel Lymph Biopsy.
Resection over wide healthy margins is a prerequisite in the prevention of recurrence for the majority of these lesions.
